PAC Multimedia, Skopje realises participative cultural policy planning in five Macedonian cities |
This project was first designed to promote discussion, identify challenges, exchange best practices and disseminate knowledge concerning the current role of culture in urban governance.
Concrete policymaking and potential key features of municipal planning for culture as well as new methods to come to future-oriented strategic decisions were central in this capacity building process.
Representatives of the municipalities of the 5 towns involved, municipal cultural institutions, local NGOs active in culture and Ministry representatives participated in a series of trainings and workshops.
As a result of this participative learning- and development process each of the five municipalities adopted a 5-year strategy for cultural development in their towns in summer 2008. Also, the municipalities signed a declaration to exchange cultural programmes and productions and cooperate closely in the future.
This Policies for Culture follow-up project was supported by the European Cultural Foundation, the US Embassy in Macedonia, the Macedonian Ministry of Local Self-Government and the Municipalities of Resen, Debar, Probishtip, Negotino and Strumica.
The project will continue until 2010. It will offer more training, workshops and expertise directly accompanying the local communities during the first steps of concretely realising the adopted cultural development strategies in their municipalities.
