Zilina (Slovakia) Spin-Off concludes with Presentation of Project Case Study & Documentation
In October 2004 the European Cultural Foundation and its project partners from the Foundation Centre for Contemporary Arts, Bratislava, the local NGO Truc Sphrique, the Regional Authorities of the VC ilina, the Municipality of ilina and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic have started a large scale initiative supporting cultural development in the region of ilina, located in the North West of Slovakia.

Over the past four years the project aimed to research, elaborate and politically endorse a development plan for upgrading ilinas existing cultural assets in order to capitalise on them for the regions further development.

The local cultural policy document adopted in October 2007 (see previous PfC News) had substantial impact on future cultural development plans and discussions in Zilina and became an essential point of reference for similar projects in other administrative entities of Slovakia and the EU neighbourhood.

The project was extensively based on the Policies for Culture experience with the development of local cultural policy frameworks in 14 cities and counties of South East Europe.

A full project documentation including a project case study, key documents of the overall community process leading to the adoption of the policy plan and a documentary on various players involved is now available for inspiring similar success stories across (transitional) Europe.

To obtain a copy of this publication in English and Slovak language (including a data DVD featuring all key texts and the project documentary film) write to the project management team in Amsterdam and Bratislava:
Viera Michalicova, Foundation Centre for Contemporary Arts (Bratislava) - viera@ncsu.sk
Philipp Dietachmair, European Cultural Foundation (Amsterdam) - philipp@eurocult.org

A selection of key documents from this project is also available via the Policies for Culture website.

The project team concludes work on this long-term project by expressing its gratitude to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MATRA Programme) for its generous support of this project since 2004.
